Can a Cat Taste Something Sweet?
I was visiting one of my favorite spots ( Fat Clumsy Cat and noticed a link to an article posted there. Here is a quote from the article:
Researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia and their collaborators said Sunday they found a dysfunctional feline gene that probably prevents cats from tasting sweets, a sensation nearly every other mammal on the planet experiences to varying degrees.
The article is interesting and if you would be inclined to read the rest of it, find it at:

In response to the article about cats not being able to taste anything sweet: We rescued two sister kittens several years ago and named them Sugar and Spice. Coincidently, Sugar begs for anything sweet such as cookies and yogurt while Spice doesn’t. Obviously we avoid giving them anything unhealthy and I really didn’t think she would eat the cookie when I offered it to her. I uploaded their photos to http://www.picsforpaws.com if your interested in seeing them. It’s a nice site that I found through a Google sponsored link. They claim to donate ten cents to an animal charity for every pet photo they receive.
