Can a Cat Taste Something Sweet?

Blogged under Cat Box by Administrator on Friday 20 January 2006 at 3:12 pm

I was visiting one of my favorite spots ( Fat Clumsy Cat and noticed a link to an article posted there. Here is a quote from the article:

Researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia and their collaborators said Sunday they found a dysfunctional feline gene that probably prevents cats from tasting sweets, a sensation nearly every other mammal on the planet experiences to varying degrees.

The article is interesting and if you would be inclined to read the rest of it, find it at:

Genetic flaw leaves felines without sweet tooth

hmmm… what do you think?

Pet Mascot Patch the stuffed dogOkay, this is Patch. I’ve decided to have a mascot and since real animals tend to pass away and such, I decided to have something that would be ever lasting… so, here’s Patch.

I tried installing a plugin for Wordpress that would allow me to list my recent photos by way of Flickr but just couldn’t seem to get it right. So, I made my own!

I just took thumbnails and added them to the side bar. Be sure to scroll down a bit and look on the far right side and see my newest pet pics. They are so adorable. My pets, that is!

I’ve added about 10 new pet/animal avatars this morning. Check them out here Pet Avatars . Remember, they are all made by me and usually ( not 100% of the time ) are of animals that I own or my friends own. You are free to use them, just please save them to your own image files. Thanks!

Hurt Legs and Tricks of a Dog’s Trade

Blogged under Dog House by Administrator on Tuesday 10 January 2006 at 4:30 pm

Snappy the Jack Russell TerrierThis is a post that I had on a previous blog that I removed. I wanted to save some of the posts. I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve discovered that one of my Jack Russell’s has developed a knack for getting what he wants. I went for days thinking he had hurt his leg but then began to notice he only held it out when I was either eating or opening the refrigerator.

Finally, I asked….. does your leg hurt? He held out his back leg. I give him a bite of toast and he put the leg down. I went on eating, paying no attention to him only to look down and see his leg sticking out again. I told him to go on to bed. He retreated to his dog bed.

All through the morning I noticed everything thing appeared to be fine with him. That was until he was in the kitchen with me later on and I open the fridge. Suddenly, his back leg started sticking out again! I ignored it. I sat down at the table with a glass of milk and oatmeal cookie. I looked down and once again asked if his leg hurt. He lifted the same back leg and stuck it out. I give him a bite of cookie and the leg was all right. Have you ever?

That just goes to show you, even a dog can figure out the best means to a bite of cookie.
